Have you ever spent hours on end for days studying, researching, and thinking on a very complex topic? Then when you cannot think anymore, and your brain is tired you fall asleep, and somehow your brain figures out a solution to the problem, and you wake up in the middle of the night with the answer? This has happened to me, and I would submit if you concentrate hard enough on a single topic, or do this from time to time you’ll be surprised what your mind can come up with, the problems you can solve, and the challenges you can meet. Okay so, let’s talk about this for second shall we?
Now then, interestingly enough, this doesn’t work all the time, sometimes you are half-asleep, and write something down, thinking you’ve solved the problem, only to read what you wrote in the middle the night the next morning and find that it looks like some sort of gibberish. In that case, I would submit to you that you need to go back to sleep, and try it again. There is another scenario that happens often, you solve a problem in your sleep, or come up with some great idea, but you do not write it down, and forget about it. Oh, it’s still there somewhere, but good luck finding it.
What we need in the future is to create a dream concept designing capture system. This may sound funny, but if you are an American Indian, or from other similar cultures, there is a thing called a dream catcher. Although it is based in mysticism, the concept is potentially viable, and we may someday be able to create such a device hook it up to a computer, one which would scan your brain before you wake up, convert it all into ones and zeros, and show you a 3-D CAD/CAM model of your solution, innovation, new concept, or device your mind came up with.
Yes, like you, I can hardly wait. Still, if we can design machines which can map the individual neural pathways of a single mind, allowing us to thought swap, then such a system should work whether you were asleep and not. There was an interesting person from Bell Labs named Vannevar Bush, who came up with the concept of recording an entire life. It seems that with social networks, and all that we do online, and since we spend so much of our time online, we are in essence recording more and more of it.
Therefore, it stands to reason that one day we will be able to record our virtual world, our actual world, and our dream world. Imagine the creativity and innovation that will flow at that point? Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it, and if you have any intriguing comments please shoot me an e-mail.
